Got a break in the road salt today due to 50 degree temps and a constant drizzle since last night, so I took the opportunity to drive the truck to work and back. Took a few photos on my way home.

This past Wednesday I drove three hours to go look at a 98 lexus lx 470 that turned out to be a disappointment. It had massive rust issues, disintegrating bushings, torn cv boots, leaking motor oil, coolant, and power steering fluid from the rack, half the power windows wouldn’t go up on their own... truth be told, looking at that tired old SUV made me appreciate my F-250 so much.

She ’s gonna get an Eaton Truetrac diff this spring as a token of my appreciation and way of saying thanks for sticking with me these past 5 years.

I’ve always thought this gen is the best looking F series this side of the F-100. From what I’ve read on the forums for my car a locker/LSD is some of the best bang/fun for your buck. I did not see anyone mentioning regretting adding one, do it!

Sad the LX 470 didn’t work out, but the problems sound consistent with a neglected 21-year old SUV.

It’s much harder to replace a truck than a car... I even replaced my first truck with an even older truck, because brains.

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to put this diff in for a few years now, just haven’t gotten around to it. It should make wet grass and muddy yards much easier to traverse.

These are good trucks. My dad has a 96 f250 he uses as a “rolling dumpster” for work (construction/remode ling) , it’s got the 300 straight 6 and a 5-speed, 2wd, odometer stopped working at about 200k miles. It’s rusty as hell but keeps on doing anything you could ask of it.

Yeah, I still would have bought the LX 470 at about 2/3 asking price and just dealt with the issues, but the seller would not budge at all from his ask. Frankly, I think I dodged a bullet.

Sometimes it’s okay to pay a premium for a well-sorted whatever vehicle — if you’re as mechanically inept/lazy as me. Reminds me when I tried to buy a manual allroad for 3k, dealer wanted 4k. He said the best he could do was $ 3, 749. Saw the same specimen on the shoulder of the freeway with flashers, wearing the dealer tags.

Rust is the demise of 90% of these trucks. That’s why I keep it parked if there is any possibility of salt on the roads. I picked it up from North Carolina back in 2014, and the underbody is very clean, and I want to keep it that way.

This F-250 was not in the best condition either when I got it. Needed tires, a windshield, throttle position sensor, timing chain cover, water pump, thermostat, fuel pump for the front tank, a tie rod end, radius arm bushings, ball joints, and a few other odds & ends. But it was pretty much rust-free and only $900, so worthy of repairing.

I don’t mind putting the time and money into a project, as long as the bones are solid and the price is right. Structural rust is about the only thing I run away from anymore.

This is probably my favorite generation of F150. I’d love to find one with a straight 6 and a manual transmission.

This was the last generation of truck where the F-150 shared the same body style as the heavier duty -250 and -350 (mine is a 250). Oddly you could have the 300 I6 and manual trans with ANY of them, if you special ordered it.

I’d probably be eyeballing a 150 single cab with full length bed. There’s still a few of them floating around.
